God's love for us does not change - God’s love is not conditional. The father of the prodigal could have forsaken his son after he left with his inheritance. When the younger son returned sorrowful for his sin, the father was not waiting to punish him. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him” Jesus used this parable to show that God loves us even when we sin. His love for us does not change. As the father welcomed his son home and showered him with love before he even repented, God our Father welcomes us into his loving arms the same way. Believe this in your heart: you are loved

Read: Luke 15:11-32

"His father saw him and felt compassion." - (Luke 15:20)

There are two swivel chairs by my window.

I can turn one way to watch TV, or I can turn another way and see the sunset.

James Bryant Smith in his book, The Good and Beautiful God, suggests that we often believe a false narrative about God; we see him as one who sits in a swivel chair.

He looks at us with love when we obey him.

But when we disappoint him, he swivels away from us.

This is a false narrative.

It states that God’s love is conditional depending on our behavior.

Do you picture God this way?

In our passage today, we see that God’s love is not conditional.

The father could have forsaken his son after he left with his inheritance.

But instead, he continued looking for him.

He didn’t turn his face away like some swivel-chair God.

When the younger son returned sorrowful for his sin, the father was not waiting to punish him when he saw him.

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him” - (Luke 15:20).

God SeeksJesus used this parable to show that God loves us even when we sin.

His love for us does not change.

As the father welcomed his son home and showered him with love before he even repented, God our Father welcomes us into his loving arms the same way.

Believe this in your heart: you are loved!

Thought to ponder

Today's reading includes the image of the father running to welcome the prodigal with love.

What prevents you from accepting God's open-armed love for you?

Pray about it

As you pray, embrace the truth of God’s love for you.

Action to take

Spend a few minutes imagining God running toward you with open arms and thank him for his unconditional love.

Then, as you feel led, share this image of God with someone else who needs a reminder of God's love.

Coming to Ourselves - the longest trip we can make is the one back to our true selves - the selves that God intended us to be. It is about peeling back the layers of false identity, societal expectations and personal mistakes, to rediscover our true selves in God. The prodigal son's realization, where he 'came to himself,' symbolizes the moment of spiritual awakening, where we recognize our need for God and our true purpose in life. This journey back to ourselves is often marked by overcoming denial, facing hard truths and embracing the redemptive love of God

Chasing the God Who’s Chasing You - your Heavenly Father wants to run to you and affectionately embrace you - the Lord is the lover of your soul - He has never stopped pursuing you. When you seek the Lord, you’ll find whatever you need in His presence. The Bible says our pursuit of intimacy with God begins with a revelation that “He first loved us.” Before you or I ever took a step in His direction, Jesus came and pursued a relationship with us. Without waiting for us to clean up our act first, He demonstrated His love on the cross “while we were still sinners”

No Matter What You’ve Done, God Will Take You Back - it doesn’t matter who you are or what you’ve done. God still wants you to come back to him. God the Father created you, Jesus the Son died for you, and God’s Spirit wants to live in you. Here’s what the Bible says God will do when you come back to him: “With deep love I will take you back.” God isn’t mad at you. God is mad about you. No one will ever love you more than the Creator who made you. You may have come to the end of yourself and feel like you don’t have anywhere to turn. But there is always Someone to turn to. With deep love, God will take you back. Christmas is proof of God’s love for you

Streams in my desert: Your sins and iniquities will I remember no more - when the sinner comes to Christ, he receives remission - a blotting out - of sins. And he can receive forgiveness of sins that he may commit. God instantly forgives us. And He instantly cleanses us when we come to Him according to this scripture. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” When God looks at you, He doesn’t remember that you have any past. My Father God does not remember my sins and iniquities. Neither do I remember them. I stand in God’s Presence as if I had never sinned

Streams in my desert: God Will Turn Your Life Around - God has loved you with an everlasting love. You are more than a conqueror in Christ. No weapon formed against you will prosper. He will supply all your need. If you will put God at the center of your life, He will turn your life around. God will take you from being beneath and cause you to be above. He will move you from being the tail and will make you the head. As you read your Bible, believe what He shows you and act on what He reveals. The Word you’ve believed and acted on will turn your life around

Streams in my desert: Nothing Will Be Able to Separate Us From the Love of God in Christ Jesus - it is impossible to build up our faith through human strength or ability. Without the Holy Spirit, we simply aren’t able to keep ourselves in the knowledge and assurance of God’s love for us. We need God’s Spirit to empower us in all things. When everything seems to conspire against God’s promises being fulfilled, the Holy Spirit rises up in us with true words of comfort

Streams in my desert: Steadfast Love - God's love knows no limits. It extends to the heavens. God's limitless love also extends to a world of lost sinners. He loved the world so much that "he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." The Lord's love is so strong that nothing can separate His children from it. God's love is limitless and His faithfulness is without end. God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. He is faithful to keep every promise He has made

Streams in my desert: It Happened to the Best of Them - we all stumble in many ways, but God does not define us by our failures. It's our love for Him and our honesty before Him that reveals a true walk of faith. So if you fell, you messed up, your sin got the best of you, then come clean. Make your confession. Accept the consequences without complaining, allow the Lord to forgive and restore you completely, and continue on your journey with Him

Streams in my desert: The First and the Last - we feel like we deserve more than other people - Most of us wouldn’t say we’re the best, but we all feel better than at least a few other people out there - because we’re smarter than them or work harder or whatever. Then God turns around and blesses someone who isn’t “as good” as us. We get angry with God. We feel like we have to fight for blessings. When we wrestle our way into a position of power and authority over others, we end up hurting ourselves. God has more to give to us than we even have the ability to receive
