Read Numbers 26:1 through 27:23; Mark 5:1–34
Lord had said of them, “They will all die in the wilderness.”
Not one of them survived except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun (Numbers 26:65).
Despite their miraculous deliverance from slavery, the Israelites doubted that God would enable them to enter and subdue Canaan.
For their unbelief, the entire adult population of Israel died in the wilderness, except for Joshua and Caleb.
These two had faith that God would help them conquer the land. God rewarded their faith.
God rewards faith in many ways, including these:
1. Answered prayer.
The Bible promises that God answers the prayer of faith (see Matthew 21:22).
2. Power over demons.
When Jesus’ disciples failed to cast out a demon, Jesus reminded them that faith would bring success in their ministry (see Matthew 17:14–20).
3. Confidence to face the future.
Faith in Jesus’ death and resurrection creates trust that we also will be raised up with Him (see 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18).
Those who stand firm in their faith despite the objections of others will be rewarded, as Joshua and Caleb were.
Prayer Suggestion:
Lord, help my faith to remain strong.
Quicklook: Numbers 26:63–65
The Scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments, are verbally inspired of God and are the revelation of God to man, the infallible, authoritative rule of faith and conduct.
The one true God has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent "I AM," the Creator of heaven and earth and the Redeemer of mankind. He has further revealed Himself as embodying the principles of relationship and association as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
