Apart from Jesus we can do nothing - though Jesus Christ was fully God, He lived His life in His humanity. Jesus lived as God intended man to live: in utter dependence upon God. Christ walked in spirit and truth and only said and did those things that He heard from the Father. He demonstrated how man should life. Although Jesus Christ was fully God, He drew all His strength from His Father in heaven, demonstrating how you and I should live our lives as God's children, drawing all our strength from our Lord Jesus Christ. We are to walk in spirit and truth and to do only those things that we hear from Christ our Saviour so that His life may be lived in us and through us

What Does John 15:5 Mean?

"I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing."John 15:5 (KJV)

The image of a branch gaining all its sustenance and strength from the parent vine is a beautiful description of man's total dependence upon God, without Whom we can do nothing, for in Him we live and move and have our being.

When Jesus Christ, the Son of God, walked the earth, He demonstrated this truth, for He lived His entire life in utter dependence upon the Father:

"I can do nothing of Myself," He said, "I speak only that which I have seen from my Father."

Though Jesus Christ was fully God, He lived His life in His humanity. Jesus lived as God intended man to live: in utter dependence upon God.

Christ walked in spirit and truth and only said and did those things that He heard from the Father.

He demonstrated how man should life.

He lived His life so that the life of God could be lived through the Son of Man in His humanity.

Although Jesus Christ was fully God, He drew all His strength from His Father in heaven, demonstrating how you and I should live our lives as God's children, drawing all our strength from our Lord Jesus Christ:

"For without Him we can do nothing."

We are to walk in spirit and truth and to do only those things that we hear from Christ our Saviour so that His life may be lived in us and through us.

Until we humbly confess that in and of ourselves, we can do nothing, we will foolishly and unsuccessfully attempt to produce good fruit in our own strength.

Let us meditate on this vital principle: JESUS is the vine and we are the branches.

We are to abide in HIM and allow HIS Spirit to live HIS life through us, just as He abode in the Father and did only those things that He heard from the Father:

"For apart from Me you can do nothing."

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, teach me how to abide in Christ and He in me.

Teach me to live my life as You would have me to live, in total dependence upon You (which is the life of Christ being lived through me), so that I may produce the good fruit in my life that is honouring to You.

This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

"Knowing Jesus" is a ministry aiming at edifying the body of Christ through doctrinal sound teaching.

If this page is unmanned ... then the most likely explanation is the rapture has happened. The rapture of the church is the "catching up" of the church taught in 1 Thessalonian 4:13-18. All people who have trusted Christ are taken to be with Jesus. No one knows the date when this will be.

If the rapture has happened it is not too late for you. Put your trust in Jesus Christ work on the cross. He died for sin and rose again. Believe this and have your sin forgiven, and be saved.

The Purpose of Pruning - Jesus uses the metaphor of the vineyard to emphasize the necessity of the Father tenderly trimming fruitful branches so they can produce even greater yield. The Father’s shears separate the unproductive branches from the vine, enabling the remaining branches to flourish. Pruning can be painful and perplexing, but every believer, regardless of call or creed, and as long as he or she remain organically connected to the true vine, is commissioned and pruned to bear eternal fruit — fruit that glorifies the Lord of the harvest. Ask the Lord to tenderly and thoroughly trim your life and empower you to thrive and flourish as you faithfully abide in Him

The Joy of the Lord - “joy in the Holy Spirit” is a distinguishing mark of the kingdom of God. Those who are part of the kingdom share in the kingdom’s delight. Joy is part of the fruit of the Spirit. In fact, it is our Christian duty to rejoice in the Lord. In Christ, the believer is “filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.” The joy of the Lord - our gladness of heart - is present even through the trials of life. Faith is the victory that overcomes the world, and the joy of the Lord is our strength. Adverse circumstances can actually enhance our joy. For the believer in Christ, the joy of the Lord comes as naturally as grapes on a vine

Streams in my desert: Crushed Like a Rose to Make Perfume - we don’t have to be crushed to be pleasing to God, because Jesus Christ has borne all the crushing that needs to be borne. Jesus Christ is the sweet-smelling aroma to God. Your “pleasingness” to God, your winning of God’s smile of approval, does not come through being crushed into perfume. It comes by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. Jesus has already done it all. Jesus Christ bore all the crushing in order for the lives of His people to be a sweet-smelling fragrance before God

Streams in my desert: The “end of the world” is good news - it’s not really the end. It’s the beginning of a much better world!     wip

Streams in my desert: Situated by the Waters - the person God can bless is planted by the rivers of water. We must first be separated from the world and saturated with the Word to be situated by the waters. We bear fruit only when we have roots, and we must draw upon spiritual resources to bring forth fruit in due season. To bear the fruit of the Spirit, we must allow the Spirit to work in us and through us. We must not reject the ungodly but try to reach them. God blesses us so that we might be a blessing to others

Streams in my desert: Abiding in Christ completely like a branch growing out of the vine — thus making “fruit” possible     wip

Streams in my desert: Trouble is a Messenger - there are blessings we can never have unless we are ready to pay the price of pain. It is comforting to think of trouble, in whatever form it may come to us, as a heavenly messenger, bringing us something from God. It may seem hurtful, even destructive; but in its spiritual out-working it yields blessing. Redemption, the world’s greatest blessing, is the fruit of the world’s greatest sorrow. Many of the richest blessings are the fruit of sorrow or pain

Streams in my desert: The Vine - the “vine” (Israel) may cry for help and restoration, but there are consequences to be paid. What a graphic picture this is, and what a reminder to believers today that we cannot for long ignore His will for our lives. The secrets of the believer’s growth and fertility are in glorious union with Christ
