Redeeming the Time - time is a very valuable asset in danger of being lost forever unless it is rescued or redeemed. Time is just about the most valuable asset we have. If we squander our money or lose our health, there is always the possibility of earning more money or being restored to health, but wasted time is gone forever. Those who are wise redeem the time, whereas those who are fools waste or misuse it. Those who redeem the time are walking diligently - they are walking in wisdom. The time God gives us should be used both carefully and diligently - wasted time is gone forever. Each day of our lives is vitally important in the plan of God

“See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

"Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”(Ephesians 5:15-16)

This incisive expression — “redeeming the time”—occurs also in Colossians 4:5:

“Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.”

The Greek word for “redeem” means to “buy back,” to “ransom,” or even to “rescue.”

That is, time is a very valuable asset in danger of being lost forever unless it is rescued or redeemed.

As a matter of fact, time is just about the most valuable asset we have.

If we squander our money or lose our health, there is always the possibility of earning more money or being restored to health, but wasted time is gone forever.

In our text, those who are wise redeem the time, whereas those who are fools waste or misuse it.

The word in the original for “circumspectly” is translated “diligently” in Matthew 2:7.

The text thus indicates that those who redeem the time are walking diligently; the parallel passage in Colossians 4:5 says they are walking in wisdom.

The time God gives us, therefore, should be used both carefully and diligently.

The marvelous passage in the 139th Psalm that describes the growth of the human embryo concludes with a remarkable declaration:

“In thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them” - (Psalm 139:16).

The words my members" are not in the original, and “in continuance” is actually the Hebrew word for “days.”

Thus, the verse is really telling us that all of our days were written in God’s book even before we were conceived.

Each day of our lives is vitally important in the plan of God.

As Moses prayed to the Lord, So, teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom” - (Psalm 90:12).

God and Time - when we say things like "God is timeless" or "God has no beginning or end," we are trying to explain God in terms of a dimension by which He is not constrained. In our universe time is basically linear. We go forward at a fairly steady rate, give or take allowances for velocity and gravity. We cannot go back in time, and we cannot experience more than one instant at a time. God created time. God's timelessness is part of His perfection. He can see everything that will ever happen in human history and exactly how we can be the most effective to use that history to bring people to Him. He has neither our need for time nor our time-related limitations, which is just another example of why we can trust Him with our short temporal lives

How To Live In The End Times - Christians should
always be ready for Christ’s return. His imminent coming will make us live in holiness and do His work quickly. Anticipating Christ’s return and overcoming the devil requires us to recognize the signs of the times and remain informed about global events. Jesus will return in our time — with unprecedented moral decadence, political unrest, economic turmoil, plagues, and natural disasters. Be discerning about what you hear from pastors, teachers, or prophets and stand firm in your faith, even amid persecution. It is impossible to fully describe the joy and glory that await those who have put their faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. Nothing in this world can compare to the eternal bliss that awaits them

Signs that indicate the end times are approaching - the most prominent sign of the end times is the nation of Israel itself. In 1948, Israel was recognized as a sovereign state. Having Israel as a nation in its own land is important in light of end-times prophecy because of Israel’s prominence in eschatology. God promised Abraham that his posterity would have Canaan as “an everlasting possession.” An increase in false messiahs, an increase in warfare, and famines, plagues, and natural disasters - these are signs of the end times. These events are only the beginning of birth pains the end is still to come. God has given us enough information that we can prepare, as our hearts cry out, “Come, Lord Jesus”

Signs and Seasons, Days and Years - God created time in the beginning. Then He set the sun and the moon in the sky and made the earth to assume a global shape and to rotate on an axis, making the measurement of time in “days” possible. Then that made “seasons” measurable. Everyone seems to know what is meant by time. We may complain about time going too slow or too fast, but time doesn’t go anywhere. But neither does it “stand still.” At least we can measure time intervals — seconds, hours, centuries, etc. This is because of God’s gracious forethought in providing means for doing this. He was not a “blind watchmaker,” as some evolutionists have called Him

“And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.” - (Genesis 1:14)

The subject of “time” is enigmatic.

Everyone seems to know what is meant by time, but no one can define it.

We may complain about time going too slow or too fast, but time doesn’t go anywhere.

But neither does it “stand still.”

At least we can measure time intervals — seconds, hours, centuries, etc.

This is because of God’s gracious forethought in providing means for doing this.

He was not a “blind watchmaker,” as some evolutionists have called Him.

He actually created time “in the beginning” (Genesis 1:1).

Then He set the sun and the moon in the sky and made the earth to assume a global shape and to rotate on an axis, making the measurement of time in “days” possible.

Next He placed stars in the far heavens in various locations and combinations and the earth to orbit around the sun, enabling us to tell how many “days” make up a “year.”

Then, once the earth’s rotational axis was “tilted,” that made “seasons” measurable.

So we can at least identify time durations in days and years with their seasons, and we can subdivide or combine these in whatever ways we find convenient (minutes, decades, summer, winter, etc.).

But what about the “signs”?

Although this is a controversial question, certain ancient Jewish scholars believed that God named the stars and their groupings (Isaiah 40:26; Job 38:31-32; etc.).

And then revealed their prophetic meanings to patriarchs Seth and Enoch in order to record His great plan and purpose in creation permanently in the heavens.

If so, it is no longer needed, since the written Word of God,

“for ever … settled in heaven” (Psalm 119:89), has now been transmitted

“unto the fathers by the prophets” (Hebrews 1:1) and

“shall not pass away” (Matthew 24:35).

Seasons and Reasons - seasons are part of God’s grand design for this earth: winter, spring, summer, fall. They are also part of God’s grand design for you and me: joy and sadness, struggle and peace, highs and lows, birth and loss. The word “season” implies a time that will pass. Even hard seasons have a reason. No matter what season we find ourselves in, we can be sure God is always there. If you’re in a tough season, know that it won’t last forever

Embrace Your Season - we would love for every season to be a time of increase, but without the other seasons, we wouldn’t be prepared for promotion. God has given you not only the grace to endure this season but to enjoy the season. You will come out of winter and into your springtime. Choose to rejoice today. When you are content, you see each day as a gift, appreciate the people in your lives, and are grateful for what God has given you

Expectantly Embracing a New Season - in obedience and with hope, I say “yes” to the next season. I am speaking it out loud. Yes to the “new.” Yes to believing that God is good and has good things in store for me. Yes to letting my sorrow at goodbyes deepen my soul’s dependence on Him. Yes to Jesus. God is calling me to live with an expectant heart. Expectant of goodness. Expectant that the best is yet to be and He promises to be right there with me

Only One Life - Lanny Wolfe - It matters so little how much you may own The places you’ve been or the people you’ve known For it all comes to nothing when place at His feet It’s nothing for Jesus, just memories to keep. You may take all the treasures from far away land And take all the riches you can hold in your hand And take all the pleasures your money can buy But what will you have when it’s your time to die?

Only One Life - The Lanny Wolfe Trio Project

lyrics

It matters so little

how much you may own

The places you’ve been

or the people you’ve known

For it all comes to nothing

when place at His feet

It’s nothing for Jesus,

just memories to keep.

You may take all the treasures

from far away land

And take all the riches

you can hold in your hand

And take all the pleasures

your money can buy

But what will you have

when it’s your time to die?

.

Only one life

so soon it will pass

Only what’s done for

Christ will last

Only one chance to do His will

So give to Jesus all your days,

it’s the only life that pays

When you recall you have but one life

.

The days pass so swiftly,

the months come and go

The years melt away

like a new fallen snow

Spring turns to summer,

and summer to fall

Autumn brings winter,

and death comes to call

God and Time - when we say things like "God is timeless" or "God has no beginning or end," we are trying to explain God in terms of a dimension by which He is not constrained. He can see everything that will ever happen in human history and exactly how we can be the most effective to use that history to bring people to Him. He has neither our need for time nor our time-related limitations, which is just another example of why we can trust Him with our short temporal lives

What is the relationship between God and time?

The Bible describes God's relationship to time in several places.

Psalm 90:4 says, "For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night."

Second Peter 3:8 says, "… with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day."

Isaiah 57:15 says that God "inhabits eternity."

When we say things like "God is timeless" or "God has no beginning or end," we are trying to explain God in terms of a dimension by which He is not constrained.

God created time.

In our universe time is basically linear.

We go forward at a fairly steady rate, give or take allowances for velocity and gravity.

We cannot go back in time, and we cannot experience more than one instant at a time.

God does not have this limitation.

He does not live within the semi-linear timeline of our universe.

He experiences every moment of time all at once.

It is similar to the creator of an animated film.

While the film is running, the characters experience life one cel (the sheet on which animations are drawn) at a time as it flickers past the light.

But the animator lives in a dimension where all the cels exist at once, and he can view them all at will.

Understanding this gives us a better understanding of God's power in our lives.

He was able to create the world in six days because days do not confine Him or His work (Genesis 1).

He was able to choose who to save before the ages began (2 Timothy 1:9) because He created the ages.

And He is able to select good works for us to do ahead of time (Ephesians 2:10) because He can see everything that will ever happen in human history and exactly how we can be the most effective to use that history to bring people to Him.

When He says He has a "plan" for us (Jeremiah 29:11) that plan is based on His perfect knowledge of all of history, present, and future.

When we don't trust His plan, it is the ultimate foolishness – like ignoring the advice of a perfect GPS because we think we know a better route.

God's timelessness is part of His perfection.

He has no need of growth or development or any of the other benefits linear time gives us.

He also has no temporal beginning or end.

He has neither our need for time nor our time-related limitations, which is just another example of why we can trust Him with our short temporal lives.
