Clouded Mirrors and Wrong Conclusions - things aren’t always what they seem. Sometimes terrible, sad, unexplainable things happen. And we might be tempted to think that God doesn't care or doesn't have a plan or somehow forgot about us. That’s because we don't have the whole story. Scripture says we’re looking through a cloudy mirror. "For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully ..." God never takes advantage of us, never misuses us, never forgets about us, and always works things for our good

Years ago, when we lived in Army quarters, our neighbors went on vacation and asked us to watch their house.

While they were gone, the Army unexpectedly replaced all of the windows on our street.

I covered some of my neighbors' furniture with bed sheets so it wouldn’t be damaged by the work.

However, because I was a busy mom with two small children, I forgot to remove the sheets afterwards.

When our neighbors returned the following week, they asked whom I'd let sleep in their house without asking permission.

When I explained, they were grateful I'd covered their furniture.

But this situation makes an important point: things aren’t always what they seem.

Sometimes terrible, sad, unexplainable things happen. And we might be tempted (like the psalmist) to think that God doesn't care or doesn't have a plan or somehow forgot about us.

That’s because we don't have the whole story. Scripture says we’re looking through a cloudy mirror (1 Corinthians 13:12).

So let's remember these truths:

God never takes advantage of us, never misuses us, never forgets about us, and always works things for our good (Psalm 103; Romans 8:28).

Hi!  I'm Gail Burton Purath. I started Bible Love Notes to give people a minute of scriptural encouragement in their busy day.

I don't have all the answers, but since I asked Christ to be my Lord and Savior in 1974, I've been learning from the One Who has all the answers!
