Be It Unto Me According to Thy Word
"And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus" - (Luke 1:28,31).
When the angel appeared to Mary and told her she, a virgin, would have a son, she didn't say, "I don't believe this."
She didn't say, "Give me a sign that this is really true."
Although she believed the word of the Lord, she simply questioned how it could happen, saying, "How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?" - (Luke 1:34).
She was saying, "I don't know how it's going to happen; but you said it, so I believe it."
Verse 38 says, "And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.".jpg)
The angel Gabriel appeared to both Zacharias and Mary.
He brought the same message to both — the promise of a child.
To Zacharias it was difficult to believe, because he and his wife were old.
To Mary it was impossible to believe, because she was a virgin.
But Zacharias doubted and said, "I don't know whether I can believe that." .jpg)
He had to have his mouth closed for months so he wouldn't disagree with God's plan.
On the other hand, Mary just said, "I believe it. I don't know how it will work, but be it unto me according to thy word."
Verse 45 gives us the result of Mary's faith:
"Blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord."
Our words make a difference.
If Zacharias' words could have fouled up part of God's plan for the entire world, don't you think our words could foul up His plan for our own lives?.jpg)
But notice what Mary's words accomplished.
Instead of taking her out of the plan of God, her words put her into it!
She said, "Be it unto me according to thy word."
And she was blessed when she experienced the performance of that divine plan according to her faith.
Confession:
"My words cause me to walk in God's plan.
"His Word in my heart and my mouth renews my mind, heals my body and fills my life with joy.
"Be it unto me according to Your Word, Lord!"
