“I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” was written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in 1864 during the Civil War.
With a heavy heart he wrote of “no peace on earth” because “hate is strong.”
Yet even as he wrote, a glimpse of hope shone through as he continued to write:
“God is not dead . . . the wrong shall fail, the right prevail.”
Those words could also summarize the Book of Revelation.
"Then I heard a loud voice shouting across the heavens, 'It has come at last — salvation and power and the Kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ.
"For the accuser of our brothers and sisters has been thrown down to earth — the one who accuses them before our God day and night'" - (Revelation 12:10).
These verses speak of the final triumph of God and the Lamb.
We look today upon a war-weary world and see that hate is strong and there is no lasting peace.
But we can shout to the world, “God is not dead!”
He is in control.
The wrong will fail; the right will prevail.
Christians can have peace that passes understanding as we trust our lives into the hands of the Prince of Peace.

GOD'S WORD FOR TODAY
The Scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments, are verbally inspired of God and are the revelation of God to man, the infallible, authoritative rule of faith and conduct.
The one true God has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent "I AM," the Creator of heaven and earth and the Redeemer of mankind. He has further revealed Himself as embodying the principles of relationship and association as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
