For some people failure brings discouragement and an unfortunate end to a project.
British inventor Sir James Dyson, creator of the bagless vacuum cleaner, is not one of those people.
Dyson says failure breeds success because it drives a change of perspective.
In the midst of his sorrow, the author of Psalm 42 needed a change of perspective, so he challenged his own thinking.
"Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again — my Savior and my God!" - (Psalm 42:11).
The Psalmist was discouraged, thinking sad thoughts and, as a result, experiencing sad feelings.
A crucial moment occurred when he remembered who God is and what God had done.
By remembering how God had helped in the past, he focused his thoughts on God.
Then he was able to place his confidence in God.
It was not the feeling of hope that lifted him up; it was where he placed his confidence.
And he was able to praise God for being his Savior.
Challenge for Today: Place your hope in God.
