The Lord Gives Wisdom - with some urgency, the Bible encourages us to “get wisdom.” This process starts by seeking God and asking Him, realizing that He delights to give us His wisdom. It is there available for us. His wisdom is always true. It can teach us how to act in every situation and foster productive habits. It helps us make the right choices. It gives us understanding and provides us with a shield. It helps us recognize deception so we don’t go in the wrong direction

 God’s Wisdom

“The LORD gives wisdom … he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity … wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul … understanding will guard you.” — Proverbs 2:6–11 ESV

There are many ways to define wisdom. 

In the sixth century BC, Greek writer Aeschylus said wisdom “comes through suffering.” 

In the eighteenth century, novelist Oliver Goldsmith said wisdom “consists in tracing effects to their causes.” 

Believers know there is a difference between the wisdom described by people like this and God’s wisdom.

With some urgency, the Bible encourages us to “get wisdom” (Proverbs 4:5). 

This process starts by seeking God and asking Him for wisdom, realizing that He delights to give us His wisdom. 

He stores wisdom for those who are upright. It is there, available for us.

Why is this so important? 

His wisdom is always true. It can teach us how to act in every situation and foster productive habits.

It helps us think through options and make the right choices. 

It gives us understanding and provides us with a shield. 

It helps us recognize deception, so we don’t go in the wrong direction (verse 20).

Wisdom helps us pursue the right kind of relationships.

Solomon, the author of these proverbs, realized the impact of poor choices. 

He reminds us that biblical wisdom can help us stay alert to danger and deliver us from harmful relationships.

Remember that you have a choice: Don’t be content with the shallow, imitation wisdom offered by the world. 

Dig into God’s Word. 

Stand firm on His principles. 

Seek God for His timeless, infallible wisdom— wisdom that always is true.

Prayer

Father, I cry out to You for wisdom and discernment. 

Open my eyes to more of Your truth. 

Guide me. 

Lead me.
