"And he said to them, 'Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come with power.'
"After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them.
"His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them.
"And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus" - (Mark 9:1–4, NIV).
Jesus progressively revealed who he was to his disciples.
He prepared them for the final journey to Jerusalem and the terrible events that will unfold there.
And here, he revealed himself to three of his disciples as never before!
When Jesus told his disciples that there were some there who will see that the kingdom of God has come with power, he wasn’t talking about his second coming.
He was talking about the kingdom of God that has come to this earth with his incarnation and ministry, in his own person.
Peter, James, and John are part of Jesus’ inner circle, since he made a point of including them in some very special events.
And so, they witnessed Jesus glorified and speaking with Moses and Elijah, the two greatest prophets in the Jewish religion.
We don’t know what they spoke about, but it would have been an incredible conversation to have listened in on.
Moses and Elijah were two prophets who had foreshadowed the coming of the Messiah in their own ministries.
Within the context of Mark’s story about Jesus, I suspect that they were encouraging Jesus to go on and fulfil his mission through the Cross.
This was a high point in the spiritual life of the three disciples who witnessed it.
