"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." - John 3:16
The word used here for “love” is agapao.
We more often recognize it as agape, and it is a uniquely Christian word.
In the time of the New Testament it was virtually unused by writers outside of the believing community.
Agapao is the word used for God’s unconditional love.
It is love by choice.
It does not need a “chemistry,” an affinity or a feeling.
The word denotes unconquerable benevolence and undefeatable goodwill.
Agapao will never seek anything but the highest good for mankind.
God, in His infinite, unconditional love for us, knew that the highest good for mankind would require the death of His Son, the ultimate sacrifice that can be made by a father.
Yet, the Father and the Son willingly made that sacrifice because of such great love for us.
As we live in the life of God’s love, let us also live in constant praise of Jesus’ death and resurrection and the Father’s gift to us.

The First Love - this love - the love within the Trinity - was the primeval love and is the spring from which flows every other form of true love. The first mention of love in the Old Testament refers to the love of a father (Abraham) for his son Isaac. And the first reference to love in the New Testament speaks of the heavenly love of God the Father for God the Son. Father and Son are prepared to go to the altar of sacrifice, that the will of God might be done and a way of salvation be provided for lost sinners
