The Word of God Is the Sword - we might think of logos as the Bible and rhema as a verse in the Bible. Both are the Word of God — one the whole, the other a specific part of the whole. Think of how Jesus defended Himself against Satan’s temptations in the wilderness. Three times Satan tempted Him, and three times Jesus rebuffed the temptation by quoting a verse from Deuteronomy. That’s the way to use the sword of the Spirit, the rhema of God. Take the sword of the Spirit everywhere you go by committing the promises and teachings of Scripture to memory. "And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." - Ephesians 6:17

 There are two Greek words in the New Testament that are translated into English as “word.” 

One is logos — “word, message, speech, argument, book.” 

The other is rhema — “word, saying, thing, remark.”

Generally speaking, we might think of logos as the Bible and rhema as a verse in the Bible. 

Both are the Word of God — one the whole, the other a specific part of the whole.

When Paul describes the Christian’s spiritual armor and notes the “sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,” the Greek word he uses for “word of God” is rhema, not logos.

In other words, he pictures going on the offensive in spiritual warfare by using specific parts of the Bible: promises, teachings, sayings.

Think of how Jesus defended Himself against Satan’s temptations in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11). 

Three times Satan tempted Him, and three times Jesus rebuffed the temptation by quoting a verse from Deuteronomy. 

That’s the way to use the sword of the Spirit, the rhema of God.

Take the sword of the Spirit everywhere you go by committing the promises and teachings of Scripture to memory.

The Rhema Word - Rhema refers to spoken words or a saying. It is often translated as "word," same as Logos. Many Christians use the rhema word as a way to express God speaking to them. A person may claim to have heard the "rhema word of God" when he feels God has led him to do something in service to Him. The Realm of the Spirit - those who belong to Christ are not in the realm of the flesh, but in the realm of the Spirit. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. We can only please God when we are in the realm of the Spirit. The world “realm” is just another word for “kingdom.” There are therefore two kingdoms: the kingdom of this world and the kingdom of God. Like Jesus, we can either seek the kingdom of this world or be content to serve and worship the Lord God alone. When we choose to serve God, then we will enter into the blessings of the realm of the Spirit, and angels will attend us

Prayer is an often forgotten part of the armor of God but is essential to using the armor of God well. When Satan attacks us, we are able to withstand because we know whom we have believed. Jesus said His sheep will know His voice and a stranger's voice they will not follow. That is a promise of God to you today. All we have to do to exercise that privilege is to receive it by faith and put ourselves in a position to hear. Act on what you find in the Word, not just when it's easy, but every time. Be obedient even in the slightest things. Get familiar with God's voice by meditating and studying the Word of God

Streams in my desert: How to Receive a Rhema Word Today - behind every scripture of the Bible is the voice of God. This is very important to understand. The Holy Spirit makes us hear God’s voice in the scriptures as it applies to us in specific circumstances. This is the Rhema Word. We can also hear the voice of the Spirit directly and audibly. The Bible is God’s Word. It has Rhema in it for you every day. Learn to stay with the written word and allow the Spirit speak into your spirit man as He teaches you the Word today from the scriptures.
