"... and the people of Israel said to them, 'Would that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the meat pots and ate bread to the full, for you have brought us out into this
wilderness to kill this whole
assembly with hunger.'” - (Exodus 16:3 ESV)
Think about this for a second. God had just done some amazing things for the Israelites.
The ten plagues, parting the Red Sea, rescuing them from slavery… and now they’re complaining because they’re hungry?
Their rumbling stomachs made them forget everything God had done.
They actually preferred having food with slavery over freedom with uncertainty.
Before we judge them too harshly though, let’s be honest.
We do the same thing.
God has rescued us from sin and judgment, yet how quickly we forget His goodness when things get uncomfortable.
Just like God provided for the Israelites in the wilderness, He provides everything we have today: our homes, families, jobs, and possessions.
So, here’s a tough question: What comforts in your life can’t you imagine living without?
How would you react if God took away your car, downsized your home, or reduced your income?
Would you complain and forget all He’s done for you?
If we’re really honest, most of us are just like those Israelites.
We get comfortable with our paychecks and full refrigerators.
But Jesus never promised us a comfortable life.
Take a moment today to look at your life.
Is there anything you’re depending on more than God?
Ask Him to help you rely on His faithfulness rather than your comforts.
